- SAY NO - that got your attention didn't it. Saying no however can be really difficult if you don't want to offend someone. However, if you have a condition which could potentially debilitate you, if you eat the wrong food, saying no is a form of medicine in itself. It's is actually OK to say no.
- TAKE CONTROL OF WHERE YOU EAT OUT - It's easier if you suggest a venue. It could be somewhere you have already been so you know the menu will cater for your needs, or the staff and chef are particularly accommodating. Have a few venues in mind, and take the initiative with making the booking. Friends always appreciate the 'event organiser' with social gatherings, and you will then know you will not suffer the consequences of eating foods that make you poorly.
- EAT BEFORE YOU GO TO BUFFETS - Have something before you go, you are less likely to be tempted to eat something you shouldn't when you get there!
- HYDRATE - Really watch your hydration, as it can cause huge problems with the colon if you do not drink enough. If you do have alcohol, drink water in between.
- AVOID meals heavy with beans, onion and garlic - These foods are particular irritants and the rich foods of Christmas can be loaded.
- DO NOT GORGE - Over eating can cause symptoms as much as eating the wrong foods.
- KEEP SNACKS AND TREATS - at home to a minimum. If you keep temptation down, you not only help keep yourself symptom free but also save a lot of money.
- TRACK DOWN some simple gluten free recipes and try them out beforehand. Being prepared means you can cook delicious meals, without relying on the gluten free products, which are expensive and not nutritional.
