I am very pleased to let you all know that Jan Williams, our resident CBT and Hypnotherapy expert will be talking about her service at the Positively Free From & Coeliac Community coffee morning on 31st May 2018, starting at 10am.  She will help to expel the myths around Hypnotherapy and give you an insight into how it works.

The event will be held at The Gallery Kitchen Cafe, 1 Abbey Street, Faversham, Kent.

It is free, with Free From and coeliac safe refreshments available to buy at the cafe.  Our host Lorraine King, is an experienced coeliac chef, so she will be on hand to answer any questions as well.

The phrase 'I can hear the cogs turning' isnt that far from the truth, as our minds are constantly churning and whirling away with thoughts, decisions, worries and concerns.  Plans, anxities, emotions and influences around us can have a profound effect on how we feel.  We can find things are getting out of control and that our behaviours are changing as a result of this.

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy is a method of enabling you to learn about how to move forward more effectively, unravel some ineffective behaviours that have slowed you down, and help you to be happy in what you do.

Hypnotherapy does not mean you lose control of your mind, or sense of where you are, but it does enable you to relax, learn and get those cogs turning in a more positive, effective way.

Our Hypnotherapist here at The Therapy Clinic Roosm, Faversham explains what will happen during an appointment:

'Firstly, forget what you see on the television.

Sessions last for an hour. After taking your case history, I aim to do some hypnotherapy with you in the very first session.

Everything you tell me is in strict confidence. Over the 12 years I have been in practice, I aim to deal with patients' difficulties in a caring, sympathetic, and non-judgmental way. Without wishing to appear boastful, I have a knack for cutting quickly to the heart of the problem and making lasting change happen. Patients usually leave the session with a renewed sense of hope and a spring in their step. Within a short space of time patients' friends and relatives also frequently book an appointment as they can see that there has been real and lasting change.

People often wonder what hypnosis is going to be like. The professional body that I belong to, the British Society for Clinical Hypnosis, does not allow members to practise stage hypnosis. People do sometimes come with unrealistic expectations: expecting me to simply click my fingers and they will be deeply unconscious. Although it is possible to train people to respond to the click of a finger by going rapidly into hypnosis, I think this is rather demeaning to patients.

You might be surprised to know that hypnosis is a naturally occurring state. When you first wake up in the morning or when you lose yourself in a book or hobby, you may experience a mild state of hypnosis.
